Who’s Side Are You On?< - 2006-09-18 12:36:59
font color=\"green\">Benefits of using pure teams in Heroclix It’s true that, for gaming purposes, a mixture of different characters will likely always be the norm for tournament play. It does seem, however, that Wizkids is making an effort to make pure team a realistic option for players. Of course, as more sets are released, simply having a larger selection of characters can be beneficial in team building, however, I believe the feat cards are what makes those teams come together. First off, as any seasoned player knows, stealth and range can be a deadly combination if your team is not prepared to handle it. Heroclix does, perhaps unfortunately, give an edge to ranged combat over close combat characters, and being able to see and target your opponent is a necessity in most games. There are exactly two team abilities which allow a character to ignore hindering terrain: Superman and The Ultimates. When faced with this fact, it would seem that perhaps these are the only two decent options, however, when the right feat cards are used, any team can get the right help. Trick Shot is often the first and best option. Almost all the different teams have at least one character with ranged combat expert who could use this card to attack stealth characters in hindering terrain. A few good options offer bonuses, like the Hal Jordan Green Lantern, who combines ranged combat expert with willpower and can make two attacks without taking pushing damage. Mr. Freeze is a Bat-Enemy with both stealth and barrier, on top of being able to use his teammates attack values while adjacent. The Avengers free move isn’t a bad option, but for 5 points (per character), the Avengers can become Thunderbolts, and offer incredible versatility. The Thunderbolt card allows the team’s owner to change the team ability of all their Avengers into any team ability but wild card teams, and those who can’t be copied by wild cards. Does your opponent have no trick shot? Make the Avengers Batman allies and give the all stealth. How about making them all Mystics, and forcing your opponents to take damage for hitting your team. Of course you can always use this option to turn them all into Ultimates, and maybe save 20 points by not using a trick shot. Inspiring Command has been a new favorite of mine since it came out in the Collateral Damage expansion. Patience is a virtue, but pushing and not taking clicks is outstanding. Your team leaders, those possessing leadership or mastermind, can allow your force to move at break neck speeds across the map, when moving to or from that character. This card offers pure teams a big strategic advantage, especially in high number forces, like the X-men or Hydra, but remember, the clix must share a team symbol, so wild cards can’t take advantage of this. These are really just a few options for your pure teams to be more effective. When building pure teams, I find the best mind set is to work with what you have, and forget about what you can’t get on your force. Almost no pure team can possibly have every power in the game (except maybe those X-men... man, there’s lots of em’), so stick to your strenghts, and devise a strategy that works for your team. Miki

Welcome!!!! - 2005-09-15 13:34:49
This is the first in a very long line of insightful, witty and generally useless rants, observations, and villainous soliloquies, with the occasional sceintific theorems. So welcome, enjoy and let the reign of silliness begin!!!
